Year 1 visited Newchurch St Nicholas church

|

As part of our RE topic 'Churches' we visited our local church. Mother Penny showed us around and we looked at the font, pews, altar, lectern, organ and other features. We think that we are very lucky to have such a beautiful church nearby.

Learning practically

|

In year 1 we do a lot of our learning through play and practical activities. Look at the pictures below and you will see us sorting and grouping fruits in science, measuring and ordering lengths in maths and acting out stories in English. We use numicon maths equipment to help us with our number work and calculation and have areas of provision in the classroom to help with our learning too.

Autumn 1 Homework : file (156.6k)

PE Days

Wednesday and Friday- please ensure full kits are in school and earings are covered up.

Book Changing

We will change books twice a week. Please ensure you sign your child's reading record and they bring it into school daily. Books are changed on a Monday and Thursday.

Water bottles

Pupils can bring in named bottles that they can sip throughout the day. These should only contain plain water, not flavoured water, fruit juice or cordial.

Milk

If you would like your child to drink milk in a morning then please sign up to this at the office.

Clothing

Please ensure names are put into pupils clothing. Things in year 1 do sometimes go missing and it is very tricky for us to find if it has no name on it.

Toast

Pupils can buy a round of toast at morning break if they bring in 20p. It is their responsibility to keep this safe until break time.

Homework

Children are asked to hand in their homework on a Thursday. The books will be marked and children are given rocket points to reward their hard work. A copy of homework can be found on this page.

We went to Church and Mother Penny showed us what Easter is really all about as we visited different Easter stations. Here are some pictures:

Eggsplorers

|

Here are some pictures from our 'eggsplorers' activities where children were able to learn about Bible characters through a workshop of activities. The children were very 'Eggsited' to do this!

Phonics Tests : Adobe Acrobat file (1369.6k)

Here is a copy of the 2016 phonics test for your information. We will be doing the phonics test WC 12th June. Children have to blend and read the word accurately to get a correct mark. It is a mixture of non-sense words and real words and we have been doing lots of practise in school.

Here are the maths end of year expectations. These state what the children are expected to achieve by the end of year 1. We have been working on these in class and some of these have featured as part of the take away homework too. Please help at home by working on some of these if you have time as it will also really help your child in class.

By the end of year 1 children are expected to be able to read and write the year 1 common exeption words from memory. The attached sheet will enable you to assist your child with this at home. This will also be a big focus in class this half term.

Year 1 visited the Church as part of our RE topic 'Why are Churches a special place for Christians?' Mother Penny showed us all of the special features of the Church.
