The children will continue to have the option of toast every morning playtime. If you wish your child to receive toast, please send in 20p daily with your child. The children are always given the option of a piece of fruit every morning in addition to toast. Milk is available to order on line through the school milk scheme. Your child is welcome to bring in a bottle of drinking water labelled with their name. These will be returned home daily.

Curriculum Map : file (23.6k)

Wondering what we will cover in Year 2? Have a look at our Curriculum map for the year and find out!

Charles Darwin

This half term our topic is going to be Charles Darwin. We will be finding out who he was and all about what he did that made him a famous person. We will be looking at the places he visited and what makes them so unique.

Why dont you find out some facts at home and share them with the class?

When we have found out some facts we will share them on the website with you.

Tea Party

Thank you to all the adults who attended our 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' Tea Party!

The children all had a great time baking ready for the party and really enjoyed sharing the books they had made.

Fire Safety

We were really lucky to have a visit from Rawtenstall Fire Brigade this week.

We learnt all about what to do if there is a fire in our house and how to call the Fire Brigade.

It was lots of fun acting out what to do and we even got to dress up as firefighters!

Thank you to our special visitors!

Park Visit

Year 2 were asked for their help with an important job by a member of the local Residents Association. They are looking to revamp the local park and wanted our input to ensure it was what the local children wanted. We took a walk down to the park to see what was already there and what we thought would improve it.

Watch this space for some of our finished ideas!

Reading Books

Reading is an essential part of your childs routine. They will bring home a home reading book which would be great if they could share with an adult at home. Why not listen to them read or ask them to tell you about the book they are reading? Please sign your childs reading record once you have discussed the book or read with them.

Your child also gets the opportunity to choose a book from the school library. This could be a fiction or a non-fiction book of their choice. They may choose to bring this book home or read it in school as their class reading book.

PE will take place for Year  2 on  Mondays and Thursdays.

For PE you will need

Indoor Kit

  • Pumps
  • White t-shirt
  • Blue or black shorts

Outdoor Kit

  • Blue or black tracksuit
  • White t-shirt
  • Trainers

Remember earrings are not allowed to be worn during PE so you must be able to remove them yourselves or don't wear them on PE days!

Some PE will take place outside, even if it cold, so it is essential that both outdoor kit (with suitable trainers) and indoor kit are in school at all times.

Class Dojo

If you haven't already, please sign up to the Class Dojo Reward System being used throughout school. Your login details were sent home with your child. If these details have been misplaced please let us know and we can give you another copy.

Class Dojo is a great way to keep up to date with class news/photographs and see the reasons why your child is being awarded points by the class teacher!
