Welcome back to the second half of the Summer Term.

I hope you all had a wonderful break.

Check out the Summer 2 newsletter for information about this term and the topic we are covering.

After the last term I am very excited to see some more outstanding homework from Year 5! Don't forget that I expect homework to be presented neatly, be of a high quality and handed in on Wednesdays.

Mr Worrell

On Friday, Mr Worrell (the History Man) came to visit Year 5 to speak to us about our topic - Ancient Greece.

On Thursday, a group named 'All Together Now' came into school to speak to all of the children about different cultures. We had lots of activities planned for us at each station.

The stations were:
*Gypsy arts and crafts             *All about Poland              *Arabic calligraphy              *Indian drumming             *Animal noises around the world

The children had lots of fun and really enjoyed learning about all of the different features of each culture.

Jackson Pollock

As our Spring 2 topic has been Space, we analysed the amazing artwork of Jackson Pollock
We looked at his style of dripping, drizzling, pouring and splashing paint to create art. Individual pieces of artwork based on this were created to begin with, using: pipettes, syringes and paint brushes to create different effects.
As a class, we then produced a piece of outstanding artwork.

The Linking Project

Something very exciting is taking place in Year 5! We are linking with another school in Colne - West Street Primary.
This began with making individual 'Coat of Arms' and sending them to the pupils of West Street, with them sending some back to us. We also took pictures of things around our school that we thought represented our school really well and things we were proud of.
After this, we met up with the children from West Street at the Youth Theatre in Burnley. During this we played games to get to know each other and discussed things that were important to us, such as friendship, encouraging others and equality.

Remembrance 2019

To celebrate the centenary of World War 1, children were offered to donate 50p towards Royal British Legion to dedicate a poppy to someone that was affected by the war. These were then put up around school for everyone to see.

Pantomime 2019

The children had GREAT fun when Chaplin's pantomime company came into school to perform their own version of 'Cinderella'!

Music LessonsšŸŽ¶

Every Tuesday Miss Lord comes into Year 4/5 to teach them to play trumpets and cornets.
So far this year we have learnt many new instrumentals to perform to and songs to sing!

Don't forget . . .

Just a reminder that PE is on Tuesday and Friday.

Indoor PE kit is navy shorts, white t-shirt and pumps.

Outdoor PE kit is navy tracksuit and trainers.

For health and safety reasons no jewellery is worn during PE. If you wear earings they must be removed or bring your own plasters/micropore tape to cover them.

Don't forget that spellings, home reading and times tables should be being practiced continuously throughout the year. Children will also have logins for MyMaths, Times Tables Rockstars and Purple Mash.

Class Dojo

If you haven't already, please sign up to the Class Dojo Reward System being used throughout school. Your login details were sent home with your child. If these details have been misplaced please let us know and we can give you another copy.

Class Dojo is a great way to keep up to date with class news/photographs and see the reasons why your child is being awarded points by the class teacher!
